我們社團於2010年4月17日及18日, 在台中工業區舉辦春季大會, 我為台語演講比賽參賽者, 已準備妥當, 也有信心進入前三名.

可是, 台語備稿演講比賽當天(4月18日)早上, 我向比賽主席許柏良會友表示, 我要退出下午的比賽, 理由是: 我是"不合格"的參賽者.

已經當過總會長, 參加過無數次的演講比賽, 所有比賽的角色, 包括主持人, 裁判長, 裁判, 計時, 計分以及參賽者, 都有相當的涉入, 竟然還不知道, 自己是不合格的參賽者, 實在是不好意思. 尤其是有位會友, 把她的父母親由台北帶來, 專程聽我的演講, 說一位退休的公務員, 母語又不是台語, 竟然可以上台用台語演講, 要她父母親跟我學, 真抱歉, 我讓大家家失望了.

我在3月28日參加台中大里的初賽, 獲得優勝, 得以參加4月18日的決賽, 後來, 負責大會教育訓練的分會, 邀請我擔任一堂 High Performance Leadership 高效能領導課程的講師, 我也欣然同意, 郤不知, 比賽規則裡有一條, 同層級的活動, 擔任教育訓練的講師, 不得同時為參賽者.

我為了這二個活動; 參賽者及講師, 忙了二個多星期, 還忙得很愉快呢! 誰知, 比賽當天早上, 碰到總會長 James Lin 跟我說, 好像我的角色有衝突, 我回答說:"不會吧! 只有參選者及講師的角色要擇一." 結果我不放心, 回到飯店房間上網, 上世界總會網站蒐尋比賽規則, 結果是我的角色有問題, 茲摘錄如下;

The following are ineligible to compete in this contest(以下情形為不合格參賽者): incumbent international officers and directors; region advisors or region advisor applicants; district officers (governor, any lieutenant governor, secretary, treasurer, public relations officer, division governor, or area governor) whose terms expire June 30; international officer and director candidates; immediate past district governors; district officers or announced candidates for the term beginning the upcoming July 1; presenters of educational sessions at the area, division, and/or district event at which the contest will be held在比賽場合發表教育課程者; presenters of educational sessions at the International Con vention. 有人跟我說, 你準備了那麼久, 就上台嗎! 有人抗議時再說. 可是, 我現在就已經心虛了, 叫我怎麼面對6-7百名的會友演講呢! 心裡掙扎了一陣子, 還是據實的宣佈退出比賽.

許多朋友知道我要參加比賽, 都主動過來跟我打氣加油, 還說很期待我的表現(因為我得過2007年台語幽默演講比賽的冠軍), 對我的回答要退出, 都表現出非常的不捨, 讓我感到太多的溫暖.
